Welch foundation spotlights BCM scientist
Francis T.F. Tsai, Ph.D., associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at BCM, was awarded the Welch Foundation's 2008 Norman Hackerman Award in Chemical Research.
The Welch Foundation, one of the nation's oldest and largest sources of private funding of basic research in chemistry, presents the award annually to "honor up-and-coming young scientists at Texas colleges and universities who are 40 years of age or younger." Recipients are recognized for expanding the frontiers of chemistry through their innovative research endeavors. Welch serves as director of the Tsai Laboratory of Structural Biochemistry and Proteomics. His research focuses on research focuses on how large, energy-dependent molecular machines operate in a cell.
American Heart Association recognizes Dr. Lloyd Michael
Lloyd Michael, Ph.D., professor of medicine, surgery and molecular physiology and biophysics at BCM, was elected a Fellow in the American Heart Association and the Council on Basic Cardiovascular Sciences. He was cited for his significant contributions to the cardiovascular literature and for his innovative animal models of cardiovascular disease.
Michael was also elected to the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International Council on Accreditation.
