Patient studies
Parkinson's study to evaluate creatine benefits
Volunteers are needed for a study at Baylor College of Medicine on the potential benefits of creatine, an over-the-counter nutritional supplement, in treating Parkinson's disease.
The study will test a highly purified form of creatine, commonly used by healthy individuals to improve exercise performance, to determine whether it can slow the progression of the neurodegenerative disease by protecting brain cells.
Call 713-798-3951 for more information or to register for the study.
Volunteers needed for HIV, heart disease study
A study will test whether a controlled diet, exercise and/or medication regimen can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease caused by antiretroviral drugs in HIV-positive patients.
Heart Positive is a collaborative study between Baylor College of Medicine and the Legacy Community Health Services, a full-service health care center that specializes in HIV/AIDS testing and treatment.
If you are between 18 and 65 years old, have been diagnosed with HIV and have been on Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) for at least six months, you may be eligible for the six-month study.
