Procedures for Adults
Facelift
Over time, gravity forces, sun exposure, and the stresses of daily life take their toll on the face: deep creases appear beside the mouth, the jawline slackens, and folds and fat accumulations appear on the neck and face. Facelifts counteract these problems by repositioning fat and tightening skin and muscles, giving one's face a fresher, more youthful look.
Facelifts can be combined with other procedures (browlift, eyelid surgery, nose and chin reshaping) for more dramatic results, or they can be focused primarily on the neck (necklift) if the patient's problems center there. Incisions are made in inconspicuous places such as behind the hairline and in natural folds of the skin of the face and ears. The incisions usually fade to near invisibility in time. Years later, one's face will continue to look better than if one had never had the procedure.
Browlift
Browlifts revitalize the forehead, helping one look less angry, sad, worried or tired. Using either traditional or minimally invasive (endoscopic) methods, browlifts reposition forehead skin and remove or alter the muscles above the eyes to smooth lines and raise the eyebrows for a more youthful appearance. The procedure is often combined with other operations such as blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and facelifts to improve the look of the eyes and other areas of the face.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
By removing excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids, blepharoplasty can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes. It is often a cosmetic procedure but can also improve vision by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient's field of vision. Blepharoplasty does not raise the eyebrows or reduce the appearance of wrinkles, crow's feet or dark circles under the eyes, but the procedure can be combined with others such as browlift or BOTOX® treatments to achieve such results.
Nasal Surgery (Rhinoplasty)
Rhinoplasty is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures. This procedure is performed to reshape, reduce or augment a person's nose. Oftentimes, nasal contouring or rhinoplasty procedures are performed to correct damage suffered from an injury or to improve breathing. Insurance may cover rhinoplasty costs if it is necessary for reconstructive or medical reasons.

Chin Surgery
Chin surgery, also known as mentoplasty, is a surgical procedure to reshape the chin either by enhancement with an implant or by reduction surgery. In order to achieve a balanced appearance, chin surgery may be recommended to patients undergoing nasal surgery.

Skin Cancer Treatment
Working with fellowship-trained dermatologists and head and neck surgeons, The Baylor Facial Plastic Surgery Center offers advanced treatment of skin cancer of the face, including the Mohs micrographic surgery technique.
Mohs surgery involves the systematic removal and microscopic analysis of thin layers of skin at the tumor site until the last traces of cancerous tissue have been eliminated. The immediate and complete microscopic examination and evaluation of excised tissue is what differentiates Mohs surgery from other cancer removal procedures. Only the cancerous tissue is removed, minimizing both post-operative wound defect size and the chances of recurrence. The technique is most effective in the treatment of basal and squamous cell carcinomas of the skin. It may also be recommended for the eradication of other cancers and cutaneous malignancies. The high precision of Mohs surgery makes it ideal for the elimination of cancer on the face.
Trauma Repair & Reconstructive Surgery
The Baylor Facial Plastic Surgery Center is a leader in the surgical correction of facial injuries caused by sports and work-related or vehicular injury, and injuries to the nose, facial structure and jaw.
BOTOX®
BOTOX® Cosmetic, or botulinum toxin type A, is a protein commonly usSeptember 4, 2007d under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes and forehead to smooth crow's feet as well as frowSeptember 4, 2007g nerve impulses to the muscles under the skin, thus weakening them and decreasing wrinkles, giving the skin a rejuvenated look. This procedure causes minimal, temporary interference with daily activities. Dramatic results are present within three to five days.

Collagen
Collagen is a naturally occurring protein that provides volume to the second layer of skin. Collagen injections counteract the effects of gravity forces, sun exposure and years of facial muscle movement (smiling, chewing and squinting, which produce lines and creases) by filling in sunken areas and smoothing lines, creating a rejuvenated appearance. Although collagen injections improve severe wrinkles or deep folds, they cannot eliminate them. As a result, the procedure is often combined with facial resurfacing or other rejuvenation procedures for a more satisfactory and longer-lasting result.
Restylane®
Restylane® is a clear gel composed of hyaluronic acid (a natural substance that is found throughout one's body). Restylane is designed to smooth wrinkles, sculpt lips and shape facial contours. The most common areas for Restylane treatment are the frown lines between the eyebrows and the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the corner of the mouth). Restylane's unique ability to bind with water allows it to remain in one's skin for many months, providing long-lasting results. It is a synthetic product, which means that there is minimal risk of an allergic reaction. There is no need for skin tests and the risk of side effects is very low.
Depending on the type of correction desired, treatment usually takes about 30 minutes. One will be able to see the results as soon as the treatment is completed.
Radiesse™
Formerly known as Radiance, Radiesse™ is a synthetic injectable filler that reduces wrinkles and creases. Composed of microspheres of calcium hydroxyapatite in a biocompatible gel, Radiesse is made from the same minerals found in bone, so it carries minimal risk of allergic reaction. Radiesse can be used on many areas of the body, but the most effective areas to treat are the lips, nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the corner of the mouth), wrinkles around the mouth, and depressed scars.
Treatment typically takes 30 minutes to an hour and requires local anesthetic. Side effects such as swelling or bruising are minimal and fade within a few days. Results are visible immediately and can last up to two years.
Contour Threads™
A new, minimally invasive procedure is available for patients who desire a younger appearance of the mid-face and brow without undergoing a facelift or brow lift. FDA-approved Contour Threads™ are thin, flexible sutures that are threaded underneath the skin from the ear to the hairline to rejuvenate sagging foreheads, eyebrows and cheeks. When the threads are pulled gently, tiny barbs lift the sagging tissue into a subtly higher, more youthful position that reflects the patient's natural facial contours. The sutures are left in place to maintain the effects, which are further enhanced and supported over time as the body produces natural collagen and elastin fibers around the threads. The entire procedure takes about an hour under local anesthesia.
Contour Threads™ are colorless, so they can't be seen even in patients with pale or thin skin. They are made of polypropylene, a material used in dissolvable stitches. The threads can be removed later on for patients who choose to have a facelift or brow lift or who wish to reverse the procedure.
