Overview of the Master Teacher's Fellowship Program
The format of the Master Teachers' Fellowship Program (MTFP) has been remodeled to take advantage of expanded educator development opportunities at Baylor.

What's the purpose of the MTFP?

The primary aim of the MTFP is to enhance the educational mission of the College by improving the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of individual faculty. Thus, empowering them to make a positive contribution to the college and their department. Specifically, the fellowship is designed to increase fellows':

Knowledge
of key educational principles and theories.
Skills in lecturing, facilitating, designing, and evaluating.

Interest in and ability to serve as an educational leader.
Self-reflection and readiness to benefit from constructive feedback from learners and peers

What is the format of the Fellowship? Kickoff: The first month of the MTFP will consist of weekly sessions designed to help members of the class build collaborative relationships and a conceptual foundation for the remainder of the fellowship. The kickoff starts with an all-day retreat followed by three weekly three-hour workshops.

Workshops and mini-fellowships:
Fellows will be required to attend over a two-year period a certain number of educator development workshops and mini-fellowships offered at Baylor, UT-Houston, or at regional or national conferences. They will be able to select sessions which match their schedules and their interests.

Topical Discussions:
Approximately once a month, members of the MTFP class will meet to discuss specific topics (i.e., content from recent workshops or mini-fellowships) and apply key concepts to solve real-world problems via case studies and/or role play simulations.

Independent Projects:
Fellows will be required to complete, primarily during the second year of the fellowship, an educational project that involves application of educational principles to address a meaningful educational problem.

What time commitment does it require? A new class of Fellows will be selected and initiated every two years. Each class will negotiate as a group, the full length of the fellowship between 15 and 24 months, depending on the frequency within which they choose to meet and the pace at which they want to complete their independent projects.

Fellows should be prepared to make a 10%-20% time commitment.

Who is eligible?   All faculty at Baylor and UT-H are eligible for the Fellowship. In some cases, teaching fellows may also be considered.

How do I apply?   A call for applications will be made in the late spring of 2003. In the meantime, if you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Nancy Searle in the Office of Curriculum (713-798-7760) or nsearle@bcm.tmc.edu.
