Membership

  • The Academy of Distinguished Educators is a community of educators who have received a Fulbright and Jaworski LLP Faculty Excellence Award within the last five years.

Steering Committee

  • A Steering Committee is formed of three officers elected from the membership of the academy: chair, past chair, chair elect and others.
  • A member of the Committee for Educator Development will be appointed by the CED to serve as a member of the Steering Committee.
  • The Office of Undergraduate Medical Education will provide staff support for the academy in general, and for the Steering Committee specifically. Contact the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education by e-mail at academy@bcm.edu.
  • The duties of the Steering Committee will be to oversee the activities of the academy. Each officer will assume responsibility for a specific area summarized below.

Position Duties

Chair

  • Planning and Implementation of meetings, events, and opportunities to exchange ideas and promote recognition of academy members.
  • Serve as liaison to Nominating Committee (described below).
  • Serve as liaison to Society of Presidential Educators.
  • Promote the academy in and out of Baylor.
  • Foster communications between departments and heighten awareness of the academy across the continuum of the biomedical sciences.
  • Oversees functioning of all committees.
  • Serve as liaison to the Advisory Panel (described below)

Past Chair

  • Serves as chair of a sub committee: E.g.: Planning and Implementation of the mini-grants program, Resources committee, etc.

Chair Elect

  • Oversees the scheduling of the educational programs sponsored by the academy.

Steering Committee:

The governing force of the academy with various duties described above.

Program Committee:

Oversees the scheduling of Academy sponsored educational lectures and guest speakers.

Educational Grants & Resources Committee:

Oversees the process of grant review for funding with the Fulbright and Jaworski LLP Grant Funds and the investigation of potential resources for funding and educational advancement for Academy members. Members can apply for and receive funding for educational studies, travel, etc., according to the guidelines available on the web page.

Peer Mentoring:

Oversees the development and implementation of peer review and faculty development for academy members and for an academy faculty development track.

Nominating Committee:

Every two years in the fall, an ad hoc Nominating Committee with three members will be appointed by the Steering Committee to request nominations for chair elect, review credentials of proposed nominees, and to prepare a ballot of no more than three candidates.
