The Department of Ophthalmology and the Cullen Eye Institute are dedicated to being one of the nation's pre-eminent facilities when it comes to education, research, clinical care, and public service. We provide educational programs for ophthalmology residents and fellows, medical and graduate students, research scientists, and practicing ophthalmologists; support research in the structure, function, and diseases of the eye and the visual system; offer the highest quality eye care available; and sponsor public programs for prevention of eye disease and injury.

Our clinics are state-of-the art and leaders in the study and practice of eye care.

Cullen Eye Institute and the Department of Ophthalmology has been named one of only three sites in the United States which now offers the Boston Ocular Surface Prosthesis. The availability of this new treatment, under the direction of Dr. Stephen C. Pflugfelder and Dr. Anisa Gire, can restore vision and relieve intense eye pain in patients who suffer from severe diseases of the cornea.
