REACH IRACDA K12 Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
The Houston REACH IRACDA, or Houston Research Education and Career Horizon Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award, K12 Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, is a model for postdoctoral training that combines frontier-level biomedical research and training to teach research-oriented courses to undergraduates at partner institutions.
Houston REACH IRACDA will increase the supply of faculty with cutting-edge research and teaching experience. The project includes under-represented post-doctoral fellows when possible, who provide excellent role models for the undergraduates.
Materials developed through this project will be available to other institutions. Funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences - one of the National Institutes of Health - under Grant K12 GM084897, the IRACDA program allows postdoctoral fellows to combine research at BCM, with teaching at one of the three partner institutions in the Houston area.
The three partner institutions with which BCM is partnered:
2011 Annual IRACDA Conference
Each year, IRACDA Fellows and program administrators from each of the participating institutions - currently there are 17 institutions - are invited to attend the annual IRACDA Conference. The 2011 Annual IRACDA Conference was hosted by Houston REACH IRACDA. The conference took place from Sunday, June 19 to Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the Houston Downtown Hyatt Hotel and the Texas Medical Center.
2010 Annual REACH IRACDA Symposium
As part of the Houston REACH IRACDA experience, postdoctoral fellows worked together and collaborated to host the 2010 Annual REACH IRACDA Symposium. Fellows had fun working together in a variety activities such as securing and accommodating a keynote speaker, hosting and participating in poster sessions, and reserving space and resources for symposium activities. Last, in an effort to engage undergraduates from the three partner institutions, the symposium invited these students to participate in a research poster session and to network at the symposium luncheon.
