Baylor College of Medicine is recognized nationally as one of the best places in America for under-represented students to train as biomedical researchers.
- Under-represented students make up 30 percent of SMART summer undergraduate research program participants (80-100 students each year).
- There are 70 under-representedstudents in Ph.D and M.D. / Ph.D. programs at BCM.
- Under-represented Ph.D. and/or M.D./ Ph.D. students have been enrolled in all Ph.D. programs at BCM.
- Under-represented students have been recognized for selected accomplishments and have more than 100 BCM, national and international awards.
- At Baylor, there is an 80 percent retention rate of under-represented students in Ph.D. programs.
- There are 14 under-represented students in research-oriented post-bac programs such as SMART PREP Program.
- NIH Initiative for Maximizing Student Diversity grants(1998-2010) to BCM have enhanced Ph.D. training for under-represented students.
- The NIH funded REACH IRACDA Program provides post-doctoral fellows with support to conduct frontier level research with BCM faculty and gain training experience teaching two courses at local minority serving institutions the 3rd year of the post doc. Apply Now!
