Pilot and Feasibility Program
Dr. Lawrence Chan, DERC center director, is also the director of the Pilot/Feasibility Program. This program provides support for three types of investigators:
- New investigators initiating projects in a diabetes-related area who have no prior independent NIH or other federal funding
- Established investigators in diabetes-related research who wish to pursue an innovative or high-risk high-impact project in diabetes
- Established investigators in a nondiabetes research area who propose P/F projects in a diabetes-related area
The DERC provides up to $50,000 per year and services of the core laboratories to each project selected for funding. Each P/F project is funded for up to two years, pending satisfactory progress at the end of the first year. After a call for applications is issued, applicants must submit the NIH PHS 398 form.
