The Baylor IM residency recruits talented physicians from across the country and world every year. We pride ourselves in serving patients from all different backgrounds in one of the most diverse cities in the country. Our clinical work at public hospitals enables our program to provide outstanding training in care of the underserved.
As a program, we are committed to health equity, community engagement, diversity, and inclusivity.
Internal Medicine Diversity Council
The Internal Medicine Diversity Council is a resident-run organization that promotes the personal and professional development of residents, supports community outreach activities, and ensures that all residents receive training to enable them to meet the needs of our patients.
Areas of focus for the Diversity Council include:
- Mentorship
- Community outreach and advocacy in Houston
- Curriculum development (e.g. LGBT health topics)
- Social events
- Recognition of holidays and observances throughout the year
Distinction in Equity and Advocacy
Residents who distinguish themselves as leaders in equity and advocacy may graduate with a special certificate of distinction in these realms. Residents who commit a certain number of hours to teaching, training, leading, and innovating on topics related to community engagement and health equity may achieve the certificate of distinction, which is open to all residents in our program.
Office of Community Engagement & Health Equity
Baylor College of Medicine fosters diversity as a prerequisite to accomplishing our institutional mission and setting standards for excellence in training healthcare providers and providing patient-centered care.
