BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Gail Chanpong, MS
Biographical Information
Chanpong serves as a Research Associate with the Department of Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine. She has primary responsibility for
supervising database preparation, implementing quality control strategies to insure
database accuracy and consistency, and conducting basic analyses of data. Chanpong has
experience with complex statistical analyses with SPSS, SAS, programming with Stata
for Windows. She routinely prepares interpretive reports for publication and for national
organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control, National Academy of Social
Insurance, and the Independent Living Research Utilization Program. Chanpong
oversees all computer related telecommunication, created and maintains the Department
web site and acts as the office LAN Administrator. Chanpong has 12 years of experience
in preparing needs assessments and program evaluations using economic and social
indicators. She contributed to community health needs assessments for the Harris County
Hospital as part of the Community Health Information System (C-HIS) web site project
at University of Texas and participated with the University of Houston Program
Evaluation of Sexuality Education in Houston Area Schools. Chanpong has responsibility
for conducting analyses of demographic, health, and economic trend information.
Chanpong initiated her career as a Microbiologist and was associated for seven years with the Pan American Health Organization (CAREC) Epidemiology Center in Trinidad, West Indies, working collaboratively with the Centers for Disease Control. In 1984, she completed a M.S. degree emphasizing Health Care Administration and Economics. As a Research Analyst for a California Regional Data Center, she performed demographic and economic trend analyses. In cooperation with California State Department of Finance, she authored environmental and health related technical reports. Chanpong is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Public Health at the University of Texas, with research interests in community health program evaluation, the application of web site dissemination of health promotion information, and research related to public health / hospital Health Information Systems.
