Office on Women’s HealthFocal point for women’s health, the Department of Health and Human Services provides information on a wide variety of issues related specifically to women. Special emphasis is placed on eliminating disparities in health status and encouraging women to take responsibility for their own health and wellness.
Women’s Health InitiativeDetails the major 15-year research program to address the most common causes of death, disability and poor quality of life in postmenopausal women including cardiovascular disease, cancer and osteoporosis. Contains the recent estrogen and estrogen-plus- progestin studies.

The International Bibliographic Information on Dietary Supplements (IBIDS) is an award-winning database providing credible, scientific information on a variety of vitamins, minerals and botanicals. It also has a list of over 2,000 journal publications.
Texas Department of Health Osteoporosis Awareness and Education ProgramEmphasizes the importance of calcium and exercise in the prevention of osteoporosis. It includes information on fall prevention and common bone fracture, an osteoporosis fact and tip sheet, and a series of multicultural brochures on ways to maintain bone health.
North American Menopause SocietyScientific organization which promotes women’s health during midlife
and beyond through an understanding of menopause. Information on perimenopause,
early menopause, menopause symptoms and long-term health effect of estrogen
loss.
Service of the U.S. National Library and the National Institutes of Health. This is a very comprehensive site including specific topics, frequently asked questions, and research. There is also a section on prevention and screening.
NOAH: Women’s HealthContains information on annual examinations, health threats and screening tests. In addition to the information on specific health issues, it contains a section on compiling your family medical history.
Service of the American Academy of Family Physicians. This is a site that
covers health issues for the entire family. In addition to specific diseases,
it covers mental as well as physical health. It also includes prescription
drug information, a BMI (body mass index) calculator and a jogging calorie
calculator.

of Health and Human Services. Bone Health and Osteoporosis: A Report of the
Surgeon General
This first-ever Surgeon General’s Report on bone health and osteoporosis
illustrates the burden of bone disease and discusses implications for the
future. It suggests by focusing on prevention and lifestyle changes, including
physical activity and nutrition, as well as early diagnosis and treatment,
much of the damaging impact of bone disease can be avoided.
