Join a CNRC Nutrition Study!
The Children's Nutrition Research Center invites Houston-area babies, breastfeeding moms, kids, adolescents, and entire families to join the following CNRC Nutrition Studies. Houston-area residents are invited to participate in the following nutrition research projects designed to help CNRC scientists learn more about the nutritional needs of children. Free transportation and parking are available.
Childhood and Adolescent Growth and Development Studies
Online Computer game about Fruits and Vegetables NEW!
Fourth- and fifth-grade boys and girls are needed for a study to play a 10-episode computer game about fruits and vegetables. Children must be fluent in English and have an e-mail address, access to high-speed internet connection, and a parent who is willing to participate in the study. Parent will receive newsletters and access to a website on healthy nutrition. Parent materials are available in English and Spanish. Stipend provided for both parent and child.

Wii Video Game Study
Children, 9 to 12 years old, are needed for a 6 month study to understand how video games influence children’s physical activity. Children and parents must be fluent in English. Stipend.

Got Vitamin D?
Children, ages 4 to 8 years old, are needed for a nutrient absorption study. Children should be healthy, not on any medications, and willing to have 2 blood draws (numbing creams and sprays are available). Study includes 8 weeks of daily vitamin supplementation and 2 overnight study visits at Texas Children’s Hospital.

Teens In Action
11-13 and 15-17 year old boys and girls are needed for a study to complete an online survey about physical activity. Stipend.

Carbohydrate and Sugar Metabolism
Normal weight and overweight Hispanic teens, ages 13 to 17 years old, are needed for metabolism studies. The teens should be healthy, not on any medications, and not have a diabetic parent or sibling. They should not be enrolled in sports or currently trying to diet. Study includes 12 weeks of supervised exercise with an exercise physiologist and two 48 hour stays at Texas Children’s Hospital.

Healthy Kids-Houston
An after-school enrichment program to promote healthy lifestyle among minority children.
Children must be between 9 and 12 years of age with no medical or physical limitations to participate in physical activities appropriate for children. Participants must be willing to commit to the entire duration of the program and agree to sign an informed consent for data collection (no blood draw) and to protect the privacy of the data. Studies for Women
Breast-Feeding Studies
New mothers, 18 to 35 years old, healthy, not on any medications (including birth control) and exclusively breastfeeding infants less than 10 weeks of age are needed for studies investigating metabolic factors that affect breast milk production. Participants should not have parents or siblings with diabetes.
