Research Interests
My research focus is to develop and evaluate behavioral obesity prevention interventions for the pediatric primary care clinical setting. I am particularly interested in better understanding parenting practices and styles around nutrition and activity. With this in mind, I am currently developing an intervention for community pediatric primary care clinics that targets parents of young children, 5 to 11 years old, to promote healthy nutrition and activity for their children. In addition, I am interested in understanding parent’s behaviors around beverage consumption of their 5 to 8 year old children. Using well developed behavioral theories, such as the Theory of Planned Behavior and the Model of Goal-directed Behaviors, I am developing measures that I plan to validate around parent’s behaviors to promote water and limit sugar-sweetened beverages for their children.
