How Do Parents of 10 to 14 Year Olds Influence What Their Children Eat?

Parents influence what their children eat, but little is known about how this happens. Re-searchers at the USDA/ARS Children’s Nutrition Research Center (CNRC), located at the Baylor College of Medicine, are conducting an innovative internet study to help learn more about this important issue. You and your child can be part of this groundbreaking research. Moderate/Vigorous Activity by Day for Adolescents

Dr. Tom Baranowski, leader of the research group, says “One way parents may influence what their children eat is through their ‘parenting style’ or the way they raise their children. Some parents have lots of rules, whereas others have few rules. Parents also differ in the way they discipline. It is not clear how children view parenting behaviors or how parents with differing styles respond to children’s requests to have healthy foods available at home. Answering these important questions will identify ways parents can help children develop healthy lifestyles.”
