DNA Sequencing Order Form      Oligonucleotide Synthesis Order Form      Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

General Information:

Lab Location: Feigin Center (C.0790.01);
Phone: (832) 824 4767
Administrator: Partha Sen, PhD psen@bcm.edu
Technician: Colby Navarro ccnavarr@bcm.edu

Services:

We reaffirm our commitment to providing you with excellent services in DNA sequencing, fragment analysis and oligonucleotide synthesis. The lab has a capillary sequencing machine (ABI 3130xl) and a modern and efficient oligonucleotide synthesizer (ABI 3900). The lab also has ABI 7900 HT which is a high throughput machine for real time PCR and SNP analysis. In case the instruments are out-of-order, you will be notified of the delay by e-mail and/or by phone. We will do our best to restore operation as soon as possible. Please direct questions and comments to Partha Sen, PhD psen@bcm.edu or Colby Navarro ccnavarr@bcm.edu.

Turnaround Time:

  • Submit your samples as well as the appropriate web-page order forms by 2:00pm on any weekday and the sequences shall be delivered next day.
  • Orders submitted after 2:00pm will be considered as submitted next day.
  • 24 hours turn around time will be available only for Oligos <= 30 bases.
  • Please contact us for any special request prior to ordering.

Procedure Cost

DNA Sequencing: $6.00 per reaction. Price can be negotiated if you have large orders
Oligonucleotide Synthesis: $0.30 per base.
Real Time PCR: $25.00 per plate

Process Specifics

DNA Sequencing:
  • 5µl per reaction are required for all procedures.
  • Plasmid templates with <5kb insert, should be at 200ng/µl.
  • Plasmid templates with >5kb insert and BAC or PAC DNA, should be at 500ng/µl.
  • PCR products <500bp should be at 20ng/µl.
  • PCR products >500bp should be at 100ng/µl.
  • Primers should be 10pmole/µl.
    • The core lab provides the following sequencing primers: T7, T3, SP6, M13F, M13R.
  • Results will be attached to a reply email at time of completion.
  • Please contact us for any special request prior to ordering.
Oligonucleotide Synthesis:
  • The Oligonucleotides will be deprotected, quantitated and dried and packaged for pick-up.
  • Results will be attached to a reply email at time of completion.
  • Please contact us for any special request prior to ordering.

Sample Drop-off / Pick-up Locations

The main Baylor Campus has a drop off center (439A) where customers may drop off their DNA templates and primers (if any) for sequencing. They may also pick up the synthesized oligonucleotides from there. Alternatively, samples may also be dropped off in a cold room at the Feigin Center (C.0775.01) or brought directly to the Core Lab (Feigin Center 790.01).
