Principles of Health Physics

Useful Theory to Practical Application Four Week Academy

The Baylor College of Medicine, Division of Radiologic Science, is offering its annual Principles of Health Physics: Useful Theory to Practical Application four-week short course at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. This is the same short course previously offered at Texas A&M University by Drs. Ian Hamilton, John Poston, and Matthew Arno. The venue was changed last year to accommodate more students and a wider range of educational experiences and proved a smashing success.

The purpose of this course is to educate and train individuals in a wide range of applied health physics topics. The faculty and staff of this course work to make the underlying principles of health physics and radiological health engineering understandable to everyone. In fact, course participants have ranged from a former radiologic technologist, to an individual with a B.A. in arts and communications, to a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering. All have remarked how surprised and pleased they were that everyone received a wealth of learning and information in the same classroom.

It is our collective philosophy that no one gets left behind, but at the same time, we will cover everything we feel necessary to turn out competent, applied health physicists. An increase in proficiency leads to increased effectiveness and efficiency; which in turn, leads to a greater level of self confidence and inspires greater confidence in employers, as well as customers and clients.
