Trauma Study

Baylor College of Medicine Trauma Surgeons at Ben Taub General Hospital would like to announce a clinical trial that will soon begin at Ben Taub General Hospital. The trial involves utilizing low blood pressures to decrease mortality in patients that have suffered a trauma and are being taken to the operating room. All of the patients that need an operation will be have their blood pressure either maintained at a normal level or will have their blood pressure maintained at a slightly lower level than would be normal for them. While there is always the potential for organ damage and death following trauma this trial has the potential to decrease both of these events. The Surgeons at Baylor and Ben Taub have been leaders in Trauma care for decades. They have previously conducted pre hospital clinical trials examining the effects of giving lower amounts of fluid to trauma patients. This new study will extend into the operating room a previously successful strategy of giving less fluid volume and pressure to trauma patients. People that wish to not participate in the study are encouraged to call or write Dr. Carrick to obtain a free bracelet that they can wear to identify themselves in case they are involved in an accident.
Contact: For information regarding this study or to decline participation in the study please write or call Matthew M. Carrick, M.D. at 713-873-4381 One Baylor Plaza, Houston TX, 77030.
