Clinical Training Programs
There are several opportunities for clinical training in AIDS research:
Clinical Research of AIDS Training Program
This National Institute of Health funded Training Program for Clinical Research on AIDS has been at Baylor College of Medicine since 1992. Selected CFAR members constititute the training faculty. Currently there are four trainee slots per year. Trainees have opportunities in clinical HIV research in three areas: laboratory-based clinical research, clinical research trials, and clinical epidemiology. In the clinical epidemiology component, it is possible for trainees to obtain a Masters Degree in Public Health through enrollment in the University of Texas School of Public Health.

AIDS International Training and Research Program
The AITRP was funded by the NIH Fogarty International Center in 2000. This training program at Baylor College of Medicine partners with Romania, Mexico, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, and Swaziland. The program supports long-term fellows, and also short-term research experiences for talented underrepresented minority undergraduates and medical students. There is also an international option involving international training sites in Bucharest, Romania and Gabarone, Botswana.

UTHouston HIV Fellowship Training Program
Trainees in this program spend half-time seeing patients at Thomas Street Clinic and the Harris County Jail HIV Clinic, and half-time doing clinical research. This one to two year program has been approved by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners and reviewed by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates and the American Board of Internal Medicine.
