By the end of the first preclinical period of 18 months the students must complete and pass the national CBSE prior to moving into the clinical years. During the clinical years, the students take the National Board shelf or subject exams, the USMLE Steps 1 and 2 and must pass a clinical performance exam (CPX) introduced in 2004.
