RFA for Lymphoma SPORE Developmental Projects

Baylor College of Medicine and The Methodist Research Institute hold a 5 year SPORE grant in Lymphoma from the NCI.  As part of this award we have funds available in a Developmental Research Program (DRP) to support innovative translational research projects that may evolve into full projects in the SPORE or that may secure other peer-reviewed funding. The projects in the DRP must focus on lymphoma or chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Successful applicants will be fully incorporated into the SPORE with access to core resources, and will be expected to attend all meetings. In this solicitation, we plan to fund up to 5 projects for one year each with a budget up to $50K. The application will follow the format of an NIH research grant application, but will be limited to 7 pages and will be due on 10/15/08. We request that interested investigators contact Dr Heslop at 832.824.4662 or Dr Brenner at 832.824.4663 to determine whether their proposal would fit SPORE guidelines for the DRP. Investigators whose projects meet these criteria will be given detailed instructions for the application process.

RFA for Lymphoma Career Development Awards

The SPORE also has funding from a the Career Development Program which provides support for young investigators pursuing careers in translational lymphoma research as well as support for established investigators to refocus their work on lymphoma.. The goal of the program is to enable the SPORE to train investigators who will contribute to translational lymphoma research.  We request that interested applicants contact Dr Heslop at 832.824.4662 or Dr Brenner at 832.824.4663 to determine if they meet eligibility criteria. If so they will be given detailed instructions for the application process.

Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center Pilot Project Grant Announcement
July, 2008

The Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center is seeking proposals that cover the full range of cancer investigation including basic, translational, pre-clinical, clinical and population based or epidemiological research. This pilot project program is open to all Cancer Center Members.

While definitive direction from the new Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) has not yet been provided regarding funding priorities, preference will be given to projects which have a high potential of successfully competing for additional funding from the CPRIT.   The general goal of the CPRIT is to create and expedite innovation in cancer research that enhances the potential for scientific and medical break throughs, and to attract, create or expand research capabilities which will create high quality new jobs for the State.   Thus, projects should include inter and intra programmatic collaborations with an eye towards new and innovative concepts.   Inter-institutional projects where there are matching funds from the partner institution are also encouraged.

All proposals will require a short (5-6 page) project description which should include specific aims, background & significance, preliminary studies and research design & methods as well as a few references.  In addition, a budget, budget justification, and an NIH biographical sketch will be required.  All proposals will be evaluated by peer review and scored in a manner that simulates the NIH peer review process. Cancer Center leadership may direct some awards in a way that assures balanced distribution of projects across programmatic and thematic spectrums or supports strategic aims.
