The Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center
Welcome to the Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), a consortium made up of Baylor College of Medicine, its three primary teaching hospital affiliates - Ben Taub General Hospital, Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Texas Children's Hospital - and Baylor Clinic.
The Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center brings together all of the cancer-related activities from across these institutions under one umbrella, fast-tracking our efforts to prevent and ultimately cure cancer in all its forms. Our mission: to provide exceptional patient care, outstanding education for students, innovative research into the causes, prevention and treatment of cancer, and community outreach and education, especially to the underserved. Through the consortium, the Cancer Center cares for adults, children, the indigent and U.S. veterans.
In 2007, the Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center was named a designated cancer center by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), a major milestone that opens the doors for additional program funding to combat cancer. NCI-designated cancer centers play an important role in their communities and regions and serve to influence standards of cancer prevention and treatment. Most importantly, all NCI-designated cancer centers make significant contributions to advances in cancer research that are key to understanding, preventing and treating this disease. Currently these are 63 such centers nationally
