Cain
Foundation Core Laboratories
The Cain Foundation supports the operation of several core laboratories
that are located within the Cain Foundation Laboratories in the Feigin
Center. The core labs provide resources that are shared by all Cain
investigators. At the present time, there are four core laboratories.
Molecular
Biology Core
This laboratory supports a wide range of projects in the Cain
Laboratories. Equipment includes:

Tissue
Culture Core
Two laboratories are available for studies of
neuron in culture. One core laboratory is devoted to primary cultures
of neurons from the developing brain, the second is used to study cell
lines. Equipment in these labs include:

Confocal
Microscopy Core
This core laboratory provides facilities for Cain investigators to use
state-of-the-art confocal microscopy to image nervous tissue. These
facilities also allow the study of nerve cell growth and trafficking of
molecules in living neurons. Equipment includes:

Software for image processing and analysis
Gene
Microarray Core
This core laboratory, staffed by Mr. John Le,
is responsible for manufacturing custom gene microarrays for Cain
investigators. Dr. Swann, Dr. D'Arcangelo and Le presently use this
core. Equipment includes:
- Storm 860 Scanner, Computer and Image Analysis
