Cain Foundation Core LaboratoriesThe Cain Foundation supports the operation of several core laboratories that are located within the Cain Foundation Laboratories in the Feigin Center. The core labs provide resources that are shared by all Cain investigators. At the present time, there are four core laboratories. Molecular Biology Core This laboratory supports a wide range of projects in the Cain Laboratories. Equipment includes: Packard 2500 Beta Scintillation Counter Beckman Coulter Optima LE-80K Ultracentrifuge Sorvall RC-5B Refrigerated Superspeed Centrifuge Sorvall RC-35 Refrigerated Centrifuge INNOVA 4400 Incubator Shaker (2) Tissue Culture Core Two laboratories are available for studies of neuron in culture. One core laboratory is devoted to primary cultures of neurons from the developing brain, the second is used to study cell lines. Equipment in these labs include: Tissue Culture Lab 1 2 Sterilgard Biohazard Hood 2 Forma Scientific Incubators Tissue Culture Lab 2 2 Biogard Biohazard Hoods 1 Steri-cult 200 Incubator Confocal Microscopy Core This core laboratory provides facilities for Cain investigators to use state-of-the-art confocal microscopy to image nervous tissue. These facilities also allow the study of nerve cell growth and trafficking of molecules in living neurons. Equipment includes: Olympus BX5OWIF Microscope Flowview Confocal Scanning System Argon, Krypton, Helium Neon Lasers Software for image processing and analysis Gene Microarray Core This core laboratory, managed by Mr. John Le, is responsible for manufacturing custom gene microarrays for Cain investigators. Equipment includes: Storm 860 Scanner, Computer and Image Analysis Software S/S Microsample Filtration Manifolds Hybaid Thermocycler Hybaid Hybridization Ovens Beckman Coulter Allegra Centrifuge Napco Vacuum Oven BCM Home BCM Intranet Privacy Notices Contact BCM BCM Site Map (c)1998-2006
