MacSleuth Hunts HIV

MacSleuth Hunts HIV is a new Education package for High School and Junior College instructors for use in Biology, Allied Health and Computer Classrooms. It follows the format of our earlier popular MacSneeze software. MacSleuth is based on a quaint"Sherlock Holmes" type character who by reasoning and skillful strategy hunts down killer viruses; in this case the deadly Human Immunodeficiency Virus, HIV. Subsequent offerings in the series will include Ebola virus and other potentially deadly Emerging and Re-emerging Viruses. MacSleuth will be released in July 1996.

The MacSleuth Hunts HIV program is a colorful interactive computer-based learning experience based on Hypercard for the Apple Macintosh and Power Macintosh. It is designed to assist in HIV and AIDS education because young people are attracted to computers and interactive technologies. With MacSleuth students can learn about the nature of "virus hunting" work (epidemiology),the structure and strategy of the AIDS virus (HIV), the technologies used to detect HIV,and the ways in which opportunistic microbes can invade the body once the immune system is weakened by an HIV infection. Working with MacSleuth is a challenging experience but it is also a lot of fun! The stack includes a unique interactive exam module in which critical thinking skills are definitely tested.

MacSleuth Hunts HIV is rich in sound and graphics and comes with an illustrated Instruction Manual. The MacSleuth software may be ordered directly from requests to Dr. Alan Gillen by Email.

MacSleuth is also available through Edvotek, The Biotechnology Education Company (1-800-338-6835 or 1-800-EDVOTEK).
