Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis

BIA procedure

Close-up of a bioelectrical impedance spectroscopy measurement

A weak electric current is passed through the body and resistance is measured. The various tissues the current travels through affect the final measurement resulting in estimates of fat, fat-free mass, and intra- and extra-cellular water.
