David
P. Huston, M.D., directs the Biology of Inflammation Center. Dr. Huston
is professor of medicine and immunology at Baylor College of Medicine;
chief of the immunology, allergy and rheumatology section in the department
of medicine; and holds the Cullen chair in immunology. Dr. Huston is a
National Institutes of Health-trained physician-scientist who has been
on the full-time Baylor faculty for 20 years. He is nationally renowned
as a bench investigator and educator and is listed among the Best
Doctors in America. He is a diplomate of the American Board
of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Allergy and Immunology, and
the American Board of Rheumatology. He is a world leader on the structure
and immunobiology of interleukin-5, a molecule central to the pathophysiology
of allergic inflammation, has trained over 23 postgraduate students and
postdoctoral fellows, and directs numerous immunology courses within the
college. He also serves in a number of leadership positions in national
scientific professional organizations and has 17 aggregate years of service
on federal scientific review committees, including his recent appointment
to the Allergy, Immunology and Transplantation Committee of the National
Institutes of Health. His selection as director of the center reflects
his leadership abilities and excellence in the biomedical disciplines
encompassed by inflammation.
