Phillips honored as a local mentor

Dr. Jim PhillipsDr. Jim Phillips, senior associate dean for diversity and community outreach, was honored as a mentoring leader by Houston Cares at a reception Jan. 20 as part of Mentoring Month. Phillips is the founding director of the College's Saturday Morning Science program for inner city middle and high school students. Houston Cares is an affiliate of the National Cares Mentoring Movement, which promotes mentoring opportunities in the African American community.

Rice participates in important meeting on HIV/AIDS

Dr. Andrew RiceDr. Andrew Rice, professor of virology and microbiology, was a presenter at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory meeting on "HIV/AIDS Research: Its History and Future," which brought together some of the most important researchers on HIV/AIDS from the past and present. Baylor innovation highlighted at Super Bowl Live

The Texas Medical Center will have a virtual reality exhibit at Super Bowl Live in downtown Houston featuring innovations from Baylor and other TMC institutions. The virtual reality experience focusing on Baylor will highlight the emergency smart pod that can be rapidly deployed for medical response to public health outbreaks or natural disasters. Visit Super Bowl Live in Discovery Green to experience the pod’s deployment to Africa through virtual reality technology. The exhibit can be found at the Host Committee Sponsor Pavilion in the Inspire Zone. Super Bowl Live runs Jan. 28 – Feb. 5 and includes performances, interactive exhibits, food and other entertainment.

Go Red Feb. 3 and share your photos

On Friday, Feb. 3, Baylor will join institutions across the country in participating in National Wear Red Day in support of the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign, a nationwide movement to fight heart disease in women. The Baylor community is encouraged to wear red on this day. Want to share your participation? Take a photo of you and your colleagues wearing red and send it to audrey.marks@bcm.edu by 3 p.m. Friday to be featured on Baylor’s social media channels. Questions? Professionalism lecture series Feb. 9

The Center for Professionalism in Medicine at Baylor welcomes Dr. Peter Moskowitz, executive director of the Center for Professional and Personal Renewal in Palo Alto, Calif., on Thursday, Feb. 9, for two talks as part of the Profiles in Professionalism Lecture Series. Dr. Moskowitz, a nationally-recognized radiologist, keynote speaker and certified career transition and life coach, will talk on "Well-Being and the Quest for Balance: Survival Strategies for Physicians and Scientists" at 12:15 p.m. in room M112 in the DeBakey Building at main Baylor (pizza will be served) and at 4 p.m. in Rooms M321-323 of the DeBakey Building (light reception to follow). Annual compliance training due today!

Today is the last day to complete the annual compliance training, which is required of all faculty, staff, postdocs and residents. This year's topic focuses on the privacy and security of confidential information. If you haven't completed your training, take it today online.

Free faculty photo sessions

The Office of Communications will hold free faculty photo sessions in early February at various campus locations. The first two sessions will be held in the DeBakey Library and Museum at main Baylor on Thursday, Feb. 2, 9 to 11 a.m., and Friday, Feb. 3, 1 to 3 p.m. More dates and locations will be announced soon.

Join the BCM BeWell Healthy Heart Challenge

Join BCM BeWell for the Healthy Heart Challenge during American Heart Month in February. Participants will engage in regular cardiovascular exercise for a minimum of 90 minutes per week for four weeks, beginning Feb. 6. This helps meet the AHA recommendations – supported by Baylor cardiology experts – for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity 5 days ore more per week or at least 25 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity at least 3 days per week. Eligible employees who participate can earn up to 500 BCM BeWell Vitality Points. Learn more about the Healthy Heart Challenge and join online. Questions? Email wellness@bcm.edu.

Faculty asked to share their 'Healthy Habits'

Healthy Habits, a regular Baylor blog feature, asks Baylor faculty about how they maintain healthy lifestyles to help motivate the community to do the same. The feature recently received an Award for Excellence from the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Institutional Advancement. Want to be featured in Healthy Habits? Series on stalking

Baylor defines stalking as engaging in a course of conduct directed at a specific person that causes that person (or a member of that person's family or household) to fear for their safety or the safety of others. The Integrity Hotline (855-764-7292) can be used to report stalking. The BCM Security Office can help by working with local law enforcement and our affiliates on safety measures. The Title IX Office can provide various resources and services like removing your personal information from the public directory.
