Khera to participate in conference at Vatican

Dr. Mohit KheraDr. Mohit Khera, associate professor of urology, was invited to speak at the Third International Conference on Regenerative Medicine Progress and Its Cultural Impact, a summit hosted at the Vatican to discuss advancements in stem cell research and therapies. The international conference will be held April 28-30 with a focus on pediatric cancers, rare genetic diseases and diseases that occur with aging.

BCM BeWell 2015 review and 2016 preview

BCM BeWell will be holding several more meetings, including one through Bluejeans teleconferencing, on upcoming wellness activities and programs as well a review of last year. See the full schedule and locations online. Eligible employees who attend will receive 200 BCM BeWell Vitality points.

Market Days Jan. 20

The next Market Days at BCM is Wednesday, Jan. 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Rayzor Lounge at main Baylor. Vendors will include Brenham Kitchens, Café Hacienda Real Coffee, Kit Kat’s Dips, Etc., Kristi’s Kitchen, Little Delectables, Mulberry Muse, Revolucion Juice and Xoco-Latte. Diabetes symposium for primary care physicians Jan. 23

The Diabetes and Endocrinology Research Center will host the sixth annual DERC Diabetes Symposium, Diabetes and Its Complications: An Update, on Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Marriott Medical Center. The symposium is for primary care, internal medicine and family practice physicians, as well as endocrinologists, fellows, residents, nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitians and physician support staff. It will focus on disease pathogenesis, identifying treatment options and preventing complications. CME credits are available. Find more information and register online.

DocTalk on back pain Jan. 28

The next DocTalk is Thursday, Jan. 28, at noon at the Baylor College of Medicine Medical Center at the McNair Campus, conference room B, with Dr. Rubin Bashir, assistant professor of orthopedic surgery. He’ll speak on causes of back pain and how to manage it. DocTalk is an informal series of lunchtime health talks led by a member of the Baylor faculty, followed by a Q&A. Eligible employees will receive BCM BeWell Vitality points.

Registration open for Feb. 5 HIV prevention seminar

Baylor College of Medicine faculty will be presenting at the PrEP Houston: HIV Prevention Summit Friday, Feb. 5, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel River Oaks. Discover advances in HIV prevention in this afternoon seminar and roundtable discussion for clinicians, community agencies and patients. Find more information and register online.

Alumni office seeking student ambassadors

The Office of Alumni Relations is now accepting applications for the Alumni Student Ambassador Board. Through this collaborative board with representatives from each school, students will lead networking programs with alumni and act as liaisons to the Office of Alumni Relations in order to serve the student body. If you know students with exemplary leadership and organizational skills, encourage them to apply by Jan. 29. Learn more and download the application.

Pammi’s review featured on Cochrane website

Dr. Mohan Pammi, associate professor of pediatrics, had a review on standardized formal resuscitation training programs for reducing mortality and morbidity in newborn infants featured on the Cochrane website. Cochrane is a nonprofit organization that provides evidence-based reviews and summaries on clinical interventions from trials for the lay public and health policymakers. He also recorded a podcast.
