Diabetes symposium for primary care physicians Jan. 23 The Diabetes and Endocrinology Research Center will host the sixth annual DERC Diabetes Symposium, Diabetes and Its Complications: An Update, on Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Marriott Medical Center. The symposium is for primary care, internal medicine and family practice physicians, as well as endocrinologists, fellows, residents, nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitians and physician support staff. It will focus on disease pathogenesis, identifying treatment options and preventing complications. CME credits are available. Find more information and register online. DocTalk on back pain Jan. 28 The next DocTalk is Thursday, Jan. 28, at noon at the Baylor College of Medicine Medical Center at the McNair Campus, conference room B, with Dr. Rubin Bashir, assistant professor of orthopedic surgery. He’ll speak on causes of back pain and how to manage it. DocTalk is an informal series of lunchtime health talks led by a member of the Baylor faculty, followed by a Q&A. Eligible employees will receive BCM BeWell Vitality points. Registration open for Feb. 5 HIV prevention seminar Baylor College of Medicine faculty will be presenting at the PrEP Houston: HIV Prevention Summit Friday, Feb. 5, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel River Oaks. Alumni office seeking student ambassadors The Office of Alumni Relations is now accepting applications for the Alumni Student Ambassador Board. Through this collaborative board with representatives from each school, students will lead networking programs with alumni and act as liaisons to the Office of Alumni Relations in order to serve the student body. Pammi’s review featured on Cochrane website Dr. Mohan Pammi, associate professor of pediatrics, had a review on standardized formal resuscitation training programs for reducing mortality and morbidity in newborn infants featured on the Cochrane website. Cochrane is a nonprofit organization that provides evidence-based reviews and summaries on clinical interventions from trials for the lay public and health policymakers. He also recorded a podcast.
