The department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is dedicated to serving the health needs of women, with an emphasis on comprehensive, compassionate, patient-oriented care.

We offer routine obstetrical and gynecological services and a wide range of subspecialty care, providing a single, collaborative resource for women's health issues. Patients come to us with a variety of needs, including well woman visits, oncology problems, infertility, routine and high-risk obstetrical care, and minimally invasive surgery. We're meeting those needs through world-renowned physicians, the latest technologies, and the leading-edge approach to women's healthcare you would expect from one of the nation's most respected medical and research centers.

Gynecology

Dale Brown Jr., M.D., professor, is interim chair for the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and vice chairman for Clinical Affairs. Dr. Brown is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. He completed his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Charity Hospital of Louisiana, New Orleans. His clinical interests are vulvar diseases and gynecology.

Nishath A. Ali, M.D., is an instructor in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Ali specializes in general obstetrics and gynecology. She earned her medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, NC. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Ali's clinical interests include management of menstrual problems, fibroids, contraception, pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse. She is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American Medical Association, and the Harris County Medical Society.

Gary L. Binder, M.D., assistant professor, is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Bologna, Italy. Dr. Binder completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, NY, and his fellowship training in Gynecology Oncology at Baylor College of Medicine.

Jennifer E. Dietrich, M.D., is assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics in the division of pediatric and adolescent gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine. She is also the director of the Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology Fellowship at the College. Dr. Dietrich earned her medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wis. Her extensive training includes an internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine; a Master of Science in Epidemiology and Clinical Investigation from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Ky.; and a fellowship in pediatric and adolescent gynecology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Her clinical interests include pediatric and adolescent gynecology.

William E. Gibbons, M.D., is a professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Baylor College of Medicine. He is certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and reproductive medicine and infertility. Dr. Gibbons earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). His training includes a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Baylor Affiliated Hospitals in Houston and a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at BCM. After postdoctoral work, Dr. Gibbons joined the faculty of the University of Southern California where, with two other physicians, he launched the second successful in vitro fertilization (IVF) program in the United States. Dr. Gibbons returned to Baylor College of Medicine to direct the College’s reproductive medicine fellowship and IVF program. He later became director of BCM’s division of Reproductive Medicine. Dr. Gibbons transitioned to the position of chair of the obstetrics and gynecology department at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, an institution that produced the first IVF child in America. Dr. Gibbons, on the Best Doctors in America list for a decade, returned to BCM to devote more time to patient care, research and the evolution of assisted reproduction. He specializes in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

Richard T. Ivey, M.D., assistant professor, is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport. Dr. Ivey completed residencies in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and in Gynecology Oncology at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center, Oklahoma City.

Ertug Kovanci, M.D., assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, earned his medical degree from the Istanbul Medical School in Turkey. He completed his internship in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine, and residencies in obstetrics and gynecology at BCM and at Istanbul Medical School. Dr. Kovanci also completed a fellowship with the division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at BCM. He specializes in infertility, fertility preservation, premature ovarian failure and hormone replacement therapy. In addition to his position at Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Kovanci serves as Staff Physician, Gynecologic Surgery, at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston. He is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and the Society for Gynecologic Investigation.

Susan M. Leong-Kee, M.D., is an instructor in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Leong-Kee earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch Hospital in Galveston. She completed her internship and her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. Dr. Leong-Kee's clinical interests are gynecology and obstetrics as well as medical student education in her role as the Assistant Clerkship Director for OB/GYN.

Harold J. Miller, M.D., associate professor, earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans. He completed his internship and his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. Dr. Miller is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. His clinical interests are gynecology and gynecologic surgery.

Kenneth J. Moise Jr., M.D., is a professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. He is also director of BCM 's Fetal Intervention Fellowship and is a professor of Surgery at the College. Dr. Moise earned his medical degree at Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans. His extensive training includes a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Vanderbilt School of Medicine in Nashville, TN. and a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at BCM. His clinical interest is fetal intervention.

Alfred N. Poindexter III, M.D., professor, is director of the Division of Contraceptive Research and Development. Dr. Poindexter is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, with subspecialty certification in Reproductive Endocrinology. He received his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. He completed his internship in Obstetrics and Gynecology at George Hubbard Hospital in Nashville, and his residency at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. He completed fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Poindexter's clinical interests are gynecology and contraception.

Susan P. Raine, M.D., J.D., is an assistant professor in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Raine received her undergraduate training at Austin College in Sherman, TX, where she majored in international studies. After graduating summa cum laude, she pursued a law degree at The University of Texas at Austin School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in November of 1995. She attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine, completing residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Sean M. Rosenbaum, M.D., is an instructor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Rosenbaum earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. His extensive postgraduate training at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, TX includes internships in family practice, and obstetrics and gynecology; and a residency in obstetrics and gynecology. His clinical interests include general obstetrics and gynecology.

Patricia A. Smith, M.D., FACOG, is an assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Smith earned her medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. Her training includes an obstetrics and gynecology residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, CA. She served as administrative chief resident during part of her tenure at the medical center. Dr. Smith also completed an American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists’ Advanced Gynecologic Endoscopic Surgery Fellowship at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas in Houston. After completing her fellowship, Dr. Smith spent several years in private practice at Obstetrical and Gynecological Associates in Katy, TX. Dr. Smith specializes in minimally invasive gynecological procedures and perimenopause/menopause issues.

Stacy L. Strehlow, M.D., is an assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Strehlow earned her medical degree from Baylor College Medicine. Her training includes a residency in obstetrics and gynecology and fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at LAC + UAC Medical Center’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Strehlow’s clinical specialty is evaluating and managing high-risk pregnancy conditions.

Audra E. Timmins, M.D., assistant professor, earned her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, where she also completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her clinical interests are pregnancy care and gynecology.

Anuja Vyas, M.D., is an instructor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine. She is assistant medical director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor Clinic. Dr. Vyas was raised in Los Angeles, CA. and received a bachelor of science in neuroscience from the University of California, Los Angeles. She earned her medical degree at New York University School of Medicine in New York City. Her training includes an internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She served as administrative chief resident during her tenure at the hospital. Dr. Vyas� clinical specialty is general obstetrics and gynecology. She is committed to caring for women throughout the stages of their lives.

Amy E. Young, M.D., assistant professor and chief of the division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology, earned her medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson. She completed her internship at Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA, and her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Young is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, with clinical interests that include general obstetrics and gynecology.

Ronald L. Young, M.D., earned his medical degree from the University of Basel in Switzerland. His internship and his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology were completed at Baylor College of Medicine, followed by fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Young is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a leading researcher in hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

Robert K. Zurawin, M.D., associate professor, is Chief of Gynecology at Texas Children's Hospital and Director of the Fellowship in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. Dr. Zurawin completed his medical degree, internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine. He is board certified, with clinical interests that include minimally invasive surgery and alternative procedures to hysterectomy urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and problems of menopause. Dr. Zurawin is renowned for laparoscopic surgery and international robotic surgery.

Obstetrics

Gynecologic Oncology

Matthew L. Anderson, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor, earned his medical degree from Yale University, where he also completed his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He completed fellowship training in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Anderson's clinical interests include proteins involved in cellular senescence and aging, and gene therapy to treat ovarian cancer.

Creighton L. Edwards, M.D., professor, is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. His internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology were completed at Baylor University Medical Center, followed by fellowship training in Gynecology Oncology at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Edwards' clinical interests include the care of women with gynecologic conditions and female cancers.

Reproductive Genetics/Prenatal Diagnosis

Aleksandar Rajkovic, M.D., assistant professor, is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Human Genetics. He received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, OH. He completed his internship and his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Metrohealth Medical Center in Cleveland, followed by fellowship training in Clinical Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Rajkovic's clinical interests include clinical genetics, prenatal diagnostic procedures, amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling, cancer genetics and routine Ob/Gyn care.

Ignatia B. Van den Veyver, M.D., assistant professor, earned her medical degree and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Universiteit Institute of Antwerpen, Antwerp, Belgium. She is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Medical Genetics/Clinical Genetics, and specializes in Reproductive Genetics/Prenatal Diagnosis. Dr. Van den Veyver completed fellowship training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine/Molecular Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine. Her clinical interests are general and high-risk pregnancy care and prenatal diagnosis.
