Douglas L. Mann, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.A.C.P., is professor and chief of cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine and the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital. He also serves as the Don W. Chapman Chair and Professor of Medicine and Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, and as director of the Winters Center for Heart Failure Research. Dr. Mann is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Internal Medicine. He received his medical degree from Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia, where he completed his residency in internal medicine. He completed fellowship training in Cardiology at the University of California, San Diego, and a research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. Dr. Mann specializes in congestive heart failure.
Hamid Afshar, M.D., assistant professor, is a cardiac electrophysiologist, board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Electrophysiology. Electrophysiology studies the electrical activities of the heart, allowing for assessment and treatment of arrhythmias. Dr. Afshar earned his medical degree from Tehran University for Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran. He completed his clinical research and clinical fellowships in electrophysiology services at Baylor College of Medicine, The Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, and also at Ochsner Medical Institute, New Orleans, where he completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship. He served as a staff physician in electrophysiology at Ochsner Clinic Institute, New Orleans.
Ildiko Agoston, M.D., assistant professor, is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. Dr. Agoston directs the clinic's nuclear studies, interprets echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, treadmill stress tests and nuclear stress tests, and oversees the Women's Center for Comprehensive Care, a cross-disciplinary effort led by Baylor Heart Clinic to improve women's health in our community. Dr. Agoston earned her medical degree from Semmelweis University of Medicine, Budapest, Hungary. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Graduate Hospital Tenet, an affiliate of MCP-Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. She completed her clinical cardiology fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) – Galveston and a cardiac MRI fellowship at Duke University, Durham, NC. She was also a Clinical Cardiology Research Fellow at Baylor College of Medicine.
David Aguilar, M.D., assistant professor, is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases, Internal Medicine, Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology. Dr. Aguilar earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine and his cardiology fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston. Dr. Aguilar's special interests include general cardiology, metabolic diseases and cardiac imaging.
Biykem Bozkurt, M.D., F.A.C.C., associate professor, is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Internal Medicine. Dr. Bozkurt is the acting chief of cardiology at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Her special interests include congestive heart failure and women's health. Dr. Bozkurt received her medical degree from the University of Istanbul, Turkey. She completed her residency in internal medicine and her cardiology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. She also completed a heart failure and cardiac transplantation fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, PA.
Jose Díez, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.S.C.A.I., assistant professor, is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases, Interventional Cardiology and Internal Medicine. He also serves as the director of Interventional Cardiology Research. Dr. Díez specializes in coronary artery disease and interventional cardiology. His areas of expertise are coronary and peripheral percutaneous procedures. He earned his medical degree from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Medical School in Bogotá D.C., Colombia. He completed internal medicine residencies at Boston University School of Medicine and Universitario San Ignacio, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá. Dr. Díez completed his cardiology fellowship at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital/The Texas Heart Institute, Baylor College of Medicine, where he served as Chief Fellow.
Hisham Dokainish, M.D., F.A.C.C., assistant professor, is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases, Echocardiography, and Internal Medicine. He has special interest in general cardiology and cardiac imaging. Dr. Dokainish also serves as the director of Echocardiography. He received his medical degree from McMaster University of Medicine, Hamilton, Ontario, where he also completed his residency in internal medicine. He completed his fellowship in cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and a fellowship in echocardiography at Vancouver General Hospital, British Columbia.
John Farmer, M.D., associate professor, is board certified in Internal Medicine. His clinical interests include preventive cardiology, lipid disorders and heart failure. Dr. Farmer earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He completed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine.
Wayne J. Franklin, M.D., is medical director of the TACH Center. He also serves as assistant professor of Medicine and Pediatrics for the sections of Adult and Pediatric Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital and the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital. Dr. Franklin is board certified in internal medicine. He earned his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, followed by residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. He completed a fellowship at the adult cardiovascular medicine and pediatric cardiology centers at Baylor College of Medicine, St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital.
Nasser Lakkis, M.D., F.A.C.C., professor, is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases, Interventional Cardiology and Internal Medicine. Dr. Lakkis also serves as Temple and Spencer Chair in Clinical Cardiology, as Program Director of CV and Interventional Cardiology, and as chief of cardiology at Ben Taub General Hospital. He earned his medical degree from American University of Beirut. He completed his residency and fellowship training at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Lakkis' areas of expertise are coronary artery disease, interventional cardiology, and alcohol septal ablation for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).
Kumudha Ramasubbu, M.D., assistant professor, is board certified in Internal Medicine. Her clinical interests include cardiac transplantation, congestive heart failure, and general cardiology. Dr. Ramasubbu earned her medical degree from Ruprecht-Karls University, Heidelberg, Germany. She completed her residency in internal medicine at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio, and a fellowship in cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine.
