Student Overview

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program in Nurse Anesthesia enrolls 15 students per year with bachelor of science degrees in nursing. The program is 36 months in length, including didactic coursework and clinical practice. The typical incoming student is 27 years of age, has a mean grade point average of 3.67 on a 4.0 scale, and a composite score on the Graduate Record Exam of 1155 (verbal + quantitative). All students are registered nurses with experience in intensive care settings.

The DNP Program offers advanced standing to master's-prepared Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists who wish to pursue a doctoral degree. CRNAs with advanced standing complete a 24 month curriculum designed to accommodate working professionals. Most of the curriculum is offered in an online format with limited on-campus time required.

Based upon a review of demographic and academic information on applicants matriculated into the Physician Assistant Program during 2010, the typical student was female, 25 years of age, from Texas, and had a bachelor's degree. The mean grade point average was 3.64 and the average GRE score was 1188 verbal and quantitative and 4.35 on the analytical. Potential applicants are encouraged to consider these data when preparing their applications for admission.

Our students participate in activities of the Baylor Student Association. Physician Assistant students sponsor the Robert Luchi Society, whose focus is to provide needed medical services to underserved and disadvantaged areas of Texas.

Our students enjoy premier learning opportunities available with the Texas Medical Center. Furthermore, they have access to multi-ethnic cultural events, college and professional sports, nightlife, and many other amenities which are available in Houston, the fourth largest city in the U.S.

Alumni

Our alumni provide clinical care throughout the U.S. and in many international locations. Our graduates are highly recruited and are exemplary representatives of the College.

As of December 2010, there were 237 Nurse Anesthesia and 737 Physician Assistant graduates.
