Letter from the President

Dear Friends:

Gail Rauhut The Partnership President

I am honored to welcome you to The Partnership for Baylor College of Medicine as we celebrate our 11th year as the primary volunteer and community outreach organization of the College. We have a year filled with fun, education, and fundraising for the worthy scientific endeavors of BCM, one of the finest academic medical centers in the United States.

This year our fundraising effort is dedicated to the very important skeletal medicine research and patient care initiatives done by Dr. Brendan Lee, professor of molecular and human genetics, at BCM.

When you partner with Baylor College of Medicine, you become an advocate for an institution that:

  • Represents 50 percent of the doctors in the Texas Medical Center
  • Has 25 departments and more than 90 research and patient-care centers
  • Has one of the most selective medical programs in the nation, accepting only 6 percent of the students who apply
  • Ranked as one of the top 25 medical schools for research in U.S. News & World Report’s America’s Best Graduate Schools 2011
  • Ranked 2nd among all Texas colleges, universities, and medical schools in federal funding for research and development
  • Is a leader in cancer research and home to the Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center
  • Leads the country in diabetes research with an integrated program for diabetes and related endocrinology and metabolism research overseen by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases
  • Is one of only three institutions to help sequence the human genome
  • Established the first National School of Tropical Medicine in the United States solely committed to addressing the world’s most pressing tropical disease issues
  • In partnership with Texas Children’s Hospital, BCM has become home to the Sabin Vaccine Institute with the recruitment of the world renowned neglected disease expert Dr. Peter Hotez

Explore our website and learn more about our upcoming educational luncheon series as well as our grand round tours. You can also read our new monthly publication Newslink, The Portal, and view educational materials from past lectures.

Warmly,

Gail Rauhut
