Mission

To be a world academic leader in space biomedical research and education and to translate the advances gained in knowledge and technology to benefit life on Earth.

Overview

The Center for Space Medicine at BCM was established in 2008. CSM partners with the National Space Biomedical Research Institute to provide a unique, interdisciplinary academic program engaging investigators, physicians, students and others to contribute new discoveries in biomedical science, technology and medicine relevant to space and to life on Earth. CSM creates an opportunity for BCM to become a leader in the international space medicine community and to excel in enhancing the nation's human exploration of space and medicine of the future.

Education & Training Programs

The following space medicine elective courses are offered at Baylor College of Medicine during academic year 2009-2010:

  • "Topics in Human Space Exploration and Medicine" in fall 2009 for MS-2 students
  • "Introduction to Human Space Exploration and Medicine" in spring 2010 for MS-1 students
